CEDAM is recruiting for nine AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve with the Rural Opportunity VISTA Program across the state.
AmeriCorps VISTA members will focus on creating or expanding anti-poverty programs in rural Michigan. The program director and VISTA leader are based in Lansing, but we have nine additional openings which are mostly in western Michigan. Projects include:
- Creating a volunteer management plan;
- Expanding entrepreneurial programming;
- Expanding access to higher education through scholarship programs; and
- Starting a Children’s Savings Account program.
Each member will focus on building programming that benefits their individual communities and will receive day-to-day supervision by staff at their individual locations.
In addition, all members will benefit from the same professional development training during their service terms. Members will attend four in-person trainings in Lansing and will be provided with opportunities to attend two statewide conferences. Members will be invited to two AmeriCorps events- one large scale service project and a one-day mini-conference in which they will have the opportunity to network with and get to know other AmeriCorps members in Michigan.
In exchange for their year of service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a living allowance, an education award that can be used to pay back student loans or continue their education, a health care subsidy, federal student loan forbearance and child care benefits.
For more information, including information on specific locations, visit americorps.cedam.info. Application deadlines vary based on host site, but all candidates will be selected by June 27.
